Here is a radio flashback courtesy of our friends at YouTube. It's a 1986 commercial promoting Stevens and Pruett on Rock 101 KLOL. Very 80's and timely. Why timely? I'll get to that in a second.
Back to the commercial, KRIV's current zany morning guy Lanny Griffith, had "Traffic in Bondage" back then. Get the whips out.
Last time we heard about the old KLOL, folks were outraged on the Internet concerning its destruction.
I was not listening to KLOL at the time of this commercial. But I did listen to Mark Stevens and Jim Pruett later on. In fact, so did a lot of other Houstonians. (The Ranch still exists by the way)
In the 21st Century, Pruett and Brian "The Boner" Shannon have resurfaced on 97.5 KFNC with former sports guy and KPRC sportscaster Craig Roberts. The rumors have them switching from their afternoon shift back to mornings.
And then there is Mark Stevens who has recently been doing a food show on BizRadio 1320 KXYZ, but he just switched to a new FM station. Can you guess which one? Why it's FM News Channel 97.5 KFNC - the same station as his former partners.
Is there an S&P reunion coming to Houston morning radio? Would they all be relevant 20 years later? Does anyone care? Only time will tell.
I've talked to Jim Pruett on the phone a couple of times when setting up stories with him for TV. He's a very nice guy. Owns a gun shop now in addition to the radio gig. When Howard Stern arrived on the Houston airwaves on 650 KIKK, I though who better to talk with than one of the original Bayou City shock jocks.
