If you've ever been in one of those model homes in new neighborhoods, you know the furnishings are top notch, but you probably do not know those designer goods can be yours. "It's a very entertaining opportunity for people to buy furniture at reduced prices and enjoy themselves at the same time," said Bruce Sutter of Builders Auction Company. For ten years, the Houston-based Builders Auction Company has been auctioning off the furnishings, carpet, paintings, even the fake plants in model homes across the nation.
"Last week, we sold a curio cabinet and that curio cabinet would have sold at retail for $1,500," said Sutter. "It sold for $100."While the trappings were picked out by a decorator, they have been in the model homes for some time.
"This used to be new, but it's not anymore. There is no warranty, but that said, this particular home the furniture has only been here a couple of years," Sutter said.
So how much can you save?
"This will probably sell for $400 to $600. Retail, it's a $1,500 to $2,000 sofa," Sutter explained.
Being the web savvy dudes we are, the company created a temporary account for the rest of June for our TV viewers and KTRK Consumer Blog readers that lets them browse the merchandise so they didn't have to waste gas driving to a model home.
This company auctions furniture in this fashion all over the country, so if you're not in Houston, you can still enjoy the story. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
