Elizabeth “Liz” Roldán has been named Vice President of News for WLTV 23 N+ Univision Miami, where she will oversee all editorial news operations for the South Florida station.
The news of her hiring was announced on October 15, 2026, but I wasn't blogging then, so here you go now.
Roldán returns to the Miami station where her television career began, leaving her position as news director at CW39 Houston KIAH.
In her new role, Roldán will oversee day-to-day newsroom operations, content strategy, and editorial direction for WLTV 23.
“Liz brings to Miami a rare combination of journalistic vision, leadership and deep community connection. Her return to the station where she started her career reflects the strength of our talent and our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Carlos Díaz de la Fuente, TelevisaUnivision senior vice president of affiliate news.
A veteran news executive and award-winning journalist, Roldán has held newsroom leadership positions in several major U.S. television markets, building teams, launching streaming platforms, developing original programming and expanding bilingual content.
Roldán began her television career as an intern at Univision's WLTV 23 in Miami. She later joined CBS Miami WFOR 4, where she held positions including assignment manager and eventually served as news director for nine years. During her time there, she also worked as executive producer of special projects and investigations and helped develop original political affairs programming.
She previously worked at NBC 6 South Florida WTVJ in Miami as managing editor, special projects producer, and assignment manager.
In December 2020, Roldán returned to Houston as news director of KHOU 11. She joined the TEGNA-owned station alongside Director of Innovation Stuart Boslow and Digital Director Randy Klein. Roldán departed KHOU on October 4, 2024.
Months later, in January 2025, Roldán became news director at CW39 Houston KIAH, where she expanded the station's streaming and digital presence and introduced bilingual programming in new formats.
Although her television career began in South Florida, Roldán grew up in Houston, attending St. Vincent de Paul and St. Agnes Academy before earning a Bachelor of Journalism in Broadcast News from The University of Texas at Austin.
Throughout her career, Roldán's journalism and newsroom leadership have earned numerous industry honors. Her awards include the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for Outstanding Investigative Reporting in the Public Interest, a National Emmy for Outstanding News Documentary, two National Edward R. Murrow Awards, including one for News Documentary, the Frank A. Blethen Award for Local Accountability Reporting, an Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Award, a Gracie Award and 13 regional Emmy Awards, including Overall Excellence.
