Adam Joseph has been named chief meteorologist at 6abc WPVI Philadelphia, succeeding Cecily Tynan, who retired in August 2026.
A 20-year veteran of Action News, Joseph most recently served as the station’s weekday senior meteorologist, delivering forecasts during the 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
“Adam is a beloved figure in the region’s broadcasting community and a viewer favorite,” said John W. Morris, WPVI-TV general manager. “His enthusiasm and dedication to forecasting, authenticity and ability to clearly explain complex weather systems have made him a trusted voice across the region and a clear choice to step into this role.”
Joseph joined WPVI in 2005 as a weekend meteorologist before moving into weekday and primetime weather broadcasts. Over the years, he has become a familiar face to Philadelphia viewers, contributing to numerous station specials, including the 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade and previews of the Philadelphia Flower Show and Auto Show. He has also made several guest appearances on ABC News’ Good Morning America.
His work has earned numerous accolades. Philadelphia Magazine named Joseph Philadelphia’s Best Meteorologist in 2009, and the Philadelphia Business Journal recognized him with a 40 Under 40 Award in 2011 for professional excellence and community involvement. He has also received multiple Best On-Air Meteorologist honors from Main Line Today.
Before joining Action News, Joseph served as chief meteorologist at WBOY in Clarksburg, West Virginia, before moving to WSAZ in the Charleston-Huntington market. During his time at WSAZ, he earned the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television and received several awards recognizing his excellence in meteorology.
Joseph earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lyndon State College.
