Houston Dynamo and Dash Charities have opened applications for the 2026 Maggie McKethan Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship was established in 2025 to honor longtime FOX 26 Houston KRIV producer Maggie McKethan, who passed away in 2024.
The award supports aspiring female journalists who plan to pursue, or are currently pursuing, a degree in sports journalism or a related field.
Applications are being accepted now through March 31. Scholarship recipients will be notified during the week of April 13.
Two scholarships will be awarded in 2026, each valued at $5,000.
Eligible applicants include female high school seniors, college students, or graduate students who have at least one semester remaining in their studies and are focused on sports journalism or a similar discipline.
McKethan was a producer for the FOX 26 8 a.m. newscast and played a key role in “Houston’s Morning Show.” She also helped launch several programs at FOX 26, including “The Isiah Factor Uncensored,” “News Edge,” and “The Nightcap.”
She joined FOX 26 in January 2015 as an associate producer and was quickly promoted.
A graduate of the University of Mississippi, McKethan not only produced daily newscasts and helped launch new programming but also worked as a credentialed media member covering Houston’s major professional teams, including the Astros, Texans, Rockets, Dynamo, and Dash.
