Kara Willis announced today was her last day as a reporter and anchor for CW39 Houston KIAH.
Willis says she will reveal what her next job is soon.
Here is a portion of what she posted to social:
"I have had the best memories with this newsroom- we’ve accomplished so much through so many highs and lows. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried-we’ve failed, we’ve won-we’ve always been small but mighty. I just want to say thank you to my former news director who believed in this big city Houston girl coming from Beaumont, eager to cover stories in her hometown. I’ll forever be grateful for this opportunity to report, anchor AND cover traffic (with now two Emmy nominations under my belt). Thank you to my co-workers who I’ve been blessed to work with everyday and thank you to the viewers who tune in every morning faithfully! Thank you to the strangers who’ve tuned into friends. It’s been a honor to cover your stories and to emcee and support your events."
Willis joined CW39 KIAH Houston in 2023 as a reporter and anchor, returning to her hometown after two years at 12News KBMT Beaumont.
She began her broadcast journalism career at KBMT in September 2020, where she served as a reporter, multimedia journalist, and fill-in anchor for the Daybreak morning show.
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and a minor in Radio/TV in 2013, Willis later earned a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from SFA.
Before transitioning to television news, she worked in public relations, marketing, and community outreach.
Fun fact: Kara’s birthday falls on Christmas Day.
