Matt Roy leaves News 4 San Antonio WOAI - KABB

Matt Roy announced he will be leaving his news and sports anchor/reporter roles with News 4 San Antonio WOAI and Fox San Antonio KABB.

Here is what he posted on socials:

"After nearly four years at KABB/WOAI and six years with Sinclair, I am leaving the news business, with my last day on air being Oct. 17

It was a tough decision, but my wife and I know it's best for us and our future family.

I'll have more on what I will be doing next very soon, but for now I just want to thank everyone in San Antonio and the Springfield, IL communities for embracing Jordan and me. We have truly felt the love every second and could not imagine working and living anywhere else.

To journalism, I love you and I always will. Ever since I was a kid, this is what I've wanted to do. Tell stories, talk sports, be a voice for people who don't have one, and inform the public about what's happening in their communities."

Roy, who is married to his college sweetheart and fellow Sinclair San Antonio reporter Jordan Elder, says his wife is staying with the duopoly stations.

Before joining the San Antonio TV stations in 2022, Roy spent two years in Springfield, Illinois, reporting for NewsChannel 20 WICS, FOX Illinois 55 WRSP, and WCCU. There, he served as a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor.

A native of Palm Springs, California, Roy began his college journey close to home, playing football for College of the Desert in Palm Desert. He later earned a scholarship to continue his athletic and academic career at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and multimedia studies.

He went on to earn his master’s degree in sports journalism from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
