Houston Radio Platinum — the city’s online destination for classic hits from the '60s, '70s, and '80s — announced the launch of a brand-new show from veteran radio personality Johnny Goyen.
“Soul of the City with Johnny Goyen” will showcase some of the greatest soul, R&B, and Motown classics ever recorded.
A young Goyen began his radio career at the legendary KYOK Houston at just 16 years old. Over the past six decades, he’s worked at a variety of Houston stations and formats, but his passion for soul and R&B music has remained a constant.
His Houston radio résumé includes KYOK, KIKK, KRBE, KODA, KNUZ, KENR, KAUM, KXYZ, KILT, KPRC, and KFMK.
According to HoustonRadioPlatinum.com CEO Joey Kovacik, the new show will not only spotlight iconic soul tracks but also introduce fresh segments like The Legends of Soul Radio, a tribute to legendary soul DJs from Houston and around the country.
Blending music with rich storytelling, Goyen brings personal reflections from his long career, sharing memories of artists, DJs, and mentors who shaped his journey. “Soul of the City with Johnny Goyen” premieres with a special six-hour debut on Sunday, June 15 at 6 p.m., and will air Sundays from 6 p.m. to midnight exclusively on HoustonRadioPlatinum.com.
Goyen also hosts “Mornings with Johnny Goyen” weekdays from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Houston Radio Platinum. He has been with the online station since 2019.
