Former Houston radio DJ's business smashed

Chris Alan is now the co-owner of the various Christians Tailgate Bar & Grill locations around town, but Houston radio listeners will recognize his voice from Rock 101 KLOL, 93.7 The Arrow KKRW, Majic 102 KMJQ, 97.9 The Box KBXX, 93Q KKBQ, Energy 96.5 KNRJ, Hit 96.5 KKHT, going all the way back to 1400 KILE-AM Galveston.

This week, the Christians Tailgate West U area location at 5114 Kirby had its big front windows smashed in an early morning act of vandalism.

Anayeli Ruiz of KHOU 11 reported:

"Surveillance footage shows a man walking up to Christians Tailgate's patio area and throwing furniture, shattering double-pane windows and glass doors.

'It's a sinking feeling you get when someone damages something you care about,' said co-owner Chris Alan.

In just seconds, the man caused thousands of dollars in damage and left the scene without taking anything. Chairs were flipped, tables tossed, and shards of glass scattered across the bar’s front entrance."

As your friendly neighborhood Houston media blogger, I went down to take a look at the now boarded-up scene, and Alan informed me that another restaurant across the Southwest Freeway had also apparently been broken into.

What else could I do while I was there but eat a club sandwich and talk old radio stories?

Christians Tailgate catered my "Runaway Radio" cast, crew, and family screening back in 2023.  The first time the documentary film was ever shown to anyone outside of the production team.
