Austin Burkes joined KATV ABC 7 Little Rock, Arkansas, as a weekend meteorologist in January 2025 from Sinclair Broadcast Group sister station CBS Austin KEYE, where he held the same position.
Here is what Burkes posted online:
"Central Texas, it’s never 'goodbye' but 'until next time.'
Thank y’all once again for an amazing 3 years. I’ll always cherish the interactions I had with y’all and this wild Texas weather."
In his interview with "Little Rock ARC," Burkes said he never became a Texas Longhorns fan and told the show's hosts, "For some reason, Arkansas Tex-Mex just hits different." Since he is also now working for the station he grew up watching, I'm not sure Burkes will ever see us again.
Burkes joined the CBS Austin KEYE weather team in April 2022 from sister station KTXS News 12 in Abilene, where he was a weekend meteorologist.
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Burkes honed his skills as a weather anchor at the university's station, WKU NewsChannel 12.
Born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Burkes interned with KAIT 8 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
