Anthony Yanez, the actor?

Anthony Yanez will go down in history as the first member of the Houston media to appear on stage in the Alley Theatre's production of A Christmas Carol.

"I got to relive my childhood theatre days by stepping into the magic of the Alley’s A Christmas Carol," the KPRC 2 Houston chief meteorologist posted.  "I even had my very own dressing room, sang on stage (no mic and that was a good thing), and had an absolute blast hanging out with the cast. Thank you to the Alley for making this happen!"

Yanez wrote his high school drama teacher always said, "There are no small roles, only small actors," which was probably ringing in his head as he performed his walk-on role with no lines.

The amateur actor appeared on stage at the beginning and the end of the famous musical play based on Charles Dickens' 1843 novella. And as a meteorologist, he must have loved the snow featured at the end!

Yanez, who has been a fan since moving here in 2003, said his relationship with Alley Theatre led him to this unique opportunity.

This past summer, when Frank Billingsley retired, Yanez became the new evening and chief meteorologist for KPRC.

Fans of the Alley will be sad to hear that after 25 years Todd Waite is retiring as a member of the Resident Acting Company. His final performance with the Alley will be in his signature role as Sherlock Holmes for the sixth and final time in Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery in April 2025.

While writing this, I learned from the Alley's About page that "it is one of the largest U.S. professional nonprofit theatres outside of New York City."
