Roxy Van Ruiten joins KENS 5 San Antonio; Maggie Laughlin to leave

Roxy Van Ruiten announced she is joining the KENS 5 San Antonio weather department and Maggie Laughlin announced she is leaving.

"This girl is heading to San Antonio to take on an exciting new role," Van Ruiten posted on Facebook. "I’m thrilled to be joining the KENS 5 & Kens5.com family to do what I love most—bringing you the weather! While I’m beyond excited for this next chapter, leaving El Paso feels so bittersweet, feels like I’m leaving a piece of my heart behind. You’re not just my city, you’re my family, my friends and the community that has shaped me into who I am."

Van Ruiten previously worked two years as the morning weather forecaster for KTSM 9 News El Paso leaving in October 2023. Since then, she has been working as a social media manager for the Viva Auto Group.

Maggie Laughlin leaves KENS 5 San Antonio

With Van Ruiten arriving, current KENS 5 weekend morning forecaster/weekday reporter Maggie Laughlin announced she is leaving.

"As I prepare to leave, I want to express how much I will miss the community and my coworkers," Laughlin told MySA. "Words cannot fully convey my gratitude to my News Director, Jack Acosta, for taking a chance on me and bringing me to San Antonio. This city holds so much magic, and it has provided me with the growth and confidence to dream bigger than I ever thought possible. Being here without family has certainly presented its challenges, but it has also taught me resilience and the importance of seeing the bigger picture."

Laughlin joined KENS 5 San Antonio in December 2022 as a weather forecaster and news/feature reporter. She previously worked at KEPR Action News in Pasco, Washington, covering the Tri-Cities area, where she served as a weekday reporter and weekend weather anchor.

A graduate of Marymount University, Laughlin interned with ABC 7 News WJLA in Washington, D.C. She also competed in the 2022 Miss Washington USA pageant.
