Mark Scirto retired from KLTV 7 Tyler on August 1, 2024, after more than 30 years as a senior meteorologist serving East Texas.
July 25th was known as Mark Scirto Day to celebrate his career in both Tyler and Longview.
“You are more than just telling the weather. You are bringing a sense of steadiness and calm in the midst of troubled times for a lot of families in this region for so many years, and for that we want to say thank you,” United States Congressman Nathaniel Moran said at a retirement ceremony held in Scirto's honor.
Scirto first joined KLTV in 1987 as the station's original Daybreak Meteorologist. After leaving to be the chief met for KPLC 7 Lake Charles, Louisiana, for exactly three years, he returned to KLTV in April 1994 as chief meteorologist.
The University of St. Thomas in Houston grad started his meteorological career in Houston, working for Wilkens Weather Technologies. He forecasted weather for oil rigs and refineries worldwide and also worked for several Houston radio stations.
The Associated Press and Dallas Press Club Katie Award winner has four children and 14 grandchildren he plans to spend time with.
Katie Vossler took over as the KLTV chief meteorologist in August 2023. The University of Oklahoma grad even interned with Scirto. She previously worked for KSAT 12 San Antonio, KTRE 9 Lufkin and KOTV 6 Tulsa, Oklahoma.
