Brett Shipp exits Spectrum News 1 Texas

Brett Shipp left Spectrum News 1 Texas on July 31, 2024, after his contract was not renewed, according to Culture Map Dallas.

"I didn't want it to fall apart — I was having so much fun, it was the best job I ever had, because they let me be me and didn't try to put the reins on me," Shipp told Culture Map. "I did documentaries, investigative pieces — I just busted Mike Miles' ass two months ago. But I was a number, and they needed that number."

Shipp joined Spectrum News 1 Texas as an anchor when it launched in October 2020.

Shipp, a veteran investigative reporter for WFAA 8 Dallas-Fort Worth, left the TEGNA station in 2017 to run for the United States Congress.

Shipp worked at WFAA for 22 years, earning three Peabody Awards, two DuPont Silver Batons, and a DuPont Gold Baton. He also won multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards and regional EMMYs.

Bert Shipp, his father, even worked at WFAA for 40 years as a reporter and assignments editor.

The Stephen F. Austin State University grad also worked for KTRE 9 Lufkin, KVII 7 Amarillo, KOTV 6  Tulsa, and KDFW 4 DFW.
