Multiple sources tell me that ABC13 KTRK announced some job cuts. One manager-level staffer was affected. The rest of the cuts come from open job positions that will not be filled now.
Deadline reports around 140 people were affected throughout the company, representing about 2% of employees. National Geographic had the most cuts, followed by the ABC Owned Television Stations, Freeform, and other parts of the linear entertainment networks.
I just tweeted an article this week that relates to this. Hank Price wrote in TVNewsCheck:
"Ask any television general manager about their expectations for 2025 and you will likely hear some level of dread. Why? You know the list: everything from the state of network programming to the continued explosion of cord cutting.
But more than anything else, stations are concerned about their ability to generate adequate revenue during a non-political year.
As stations begin to prepare their 2025 budgets, expect corporate guidance from virtually every owner to include severe restraint in expenses, with backup plans for cuts if expected revenue does not materialize."
