I am no forecaster, but I can tell you that June 4th is former KPRC 2 meteorologist Ted Shaw's 91st birthday!
So happy birthday to Mr. Shaw.
In 1964, Shaw was credited by News Channel 6 KAUZ Wichita Falls as being the first in the United States to air a tornado live on TV.
"Ted Shaw and an assistant dragged a heavy camera outside the studio and captured the horror of a large twister making its way across the north part of Wichita Falls and Sheppard Air Force Base," the KAUZ staff wrote on the station's 60th-anniversary celebration in 2013.
The station had that camera displayed in its lobby.
As for the former KPRC anchor in the above clip, Larry Audas just retired as the WFMY News 2 Greensboro, North Carolina general manager in March 2024.
