Todd Unger joins KOIN 6 Portland

Todd Unger left 25 News KXXV Waco-Temple-Killeen in November 2023 where he was an evening anchor.

In January 2024, he joined CBS Affiliate KOIN 6 Portland as a 4pm newscast anchor/reporter.

Here is what Unger posted on Facebook when leaving KXXV:

"THANK YOU CENTRAL TEXAS!

This is my final week on air here at 25. What an awesome ride these past 3 1/2 yrs...

Through COVID-19, the Vanessa Guillen/Fort Hood coverage, two political cycles, Trevor Reed's imprisonment overseas, severe weather coverage, the winter blasts, a car thru Czech stop (!)...it has been an honor to help lead our team each and every night.

I can't say enough about the men & women who work behind-the-scenes at our shop. The directors, producers, photags, creative...they made me look good (at least when I didn't bungle somethin) and they're all dedicated, hard workers who call this incredible area home. To Matt Hines KXXV & Lauren Adams and everyone else on air, keep doing great work!

Finally, a HUGE thanks to everyone who watches from home. Be it TV, online, or through social, it doesn't matter: local journalism is more important than ever & it's only because of you that we still carry an impact. Our local nonprofits and organizations are special here, although Meals on Wheels Waco might be my favorite

Some new adventures to come in '24, & I'll share more on what's next down the line.

Until then, thanks for the trust & Happy Holidays!"

An insider told me that Unger was praised by his coworkers and left because he was unhappy with how owner, the E.W. Scripps Company, has been letting anchors in mid and small markets go as of late.

Unger joined KXXV in March 2020 after working on a documentary about the European Union and Romanian Justice System.

Dallas - Fort Worth viewers will recognize Unger from his time as a reporter/fill-in anchor for WFAA 8.

Before that, the Emmy award-winning journalist worked for KOAT Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The University of Denver grad got his start with Fox 42 News KPTM Omaha, Nebraska.
