Elyse Smith, a recent meteorologist for WGRZ 2 Buffalo, New York, is joining abc13 Houston KTRK mikemcguff.com has since learned after writing the original version of this post.
UPDATE MAY 30, 2023
Elyse Smith officially announced for abc13
Her shift will be weekend evenings with anchor Tom Abrahams, while reporting on climate issued during the week.
UPDATE MAY 5, 2023: In the original version of this post, I noted how, according to Alan Pergament of The Buffalo News, Smith was coming to an unknown Houston TV station.
"Smith hasn’t announced where she is going, which usually means the station where she is headed hasn’t told the person she is replacing," writes Pergament.
So at the bottom of the original post, I asked the audience. Multiple sources, and Houston TV viewers who are really good sleuths, have let me know that Smith is joining the abc13 weather department.
According to The Buffalo News, Smith was doing weekends, and was put on weekdays after someone else left, but was never given that weekdays job permanently. The weekday position was just filled by a new hire.
Smith, a world champion Irish dancer, joined TEGNA's WGRZ in January 2020. She started her meteorology career with KRCG 13 Jefferson City, Missouri.
The Valparaiso University grad interned with WGN Chicago's Tom Skilling and James Spann of ABC 33/40 WBMA Birmingham, Alabama. Those are two BIG names in TV weather.
Bye 2 Buffalo ❤️

Today is my last day @WGRZ. Moving to #Buffalo was the best choice I could have made. Here I became the meteorologist I’ve dreamed of being since I was a little girl. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms... this place felt like home for the past 3 years. pic.twitter.com/u8ekQu2PUu
