(Dec. 12, 2022) — Houston Public Media announced the expansion of local programming with the television debut of “Party Politics” on KUHT TV 8.
The weekly podcast and radio show will launch on television Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at 8 p.m.
“We are very excited to extend ‘Party Politics’ and its intelligent and insightful political discussions with our TV 8 audience,” said Houston Public Media Station Manager, Josh Adams. “As a licensee of the University of Houston, we have an opportunity to share Brandon and Jeronimo’s expertise with an entirely new television audience.”
Hosts Jeronimo Cortina and Brandon Rottinghaus are both University of Houston political science professors. According to Houston Public Media’s website, the duo delivers a smart and spirited recap of the week’s biggest political news stories. Transitioning an audio-only program into a weekly TV show required some changes in the production process, but station management promises the content and engagement will remain the same.
“The original goal for the podcast was to provide a fun and approachable breakdown of political news. If you find yourself at a party or social gathering, you will be well equipped to engage in political discussions,” said Kyle Claude, executive director of content operations. “It’s grown well beyond that and now serves as a refreshing alternative to the hyper-partisan red versus blue political commentary.”
Topics on the program range from Texas election and legislative coverage to national and global political issues. According to Houston Public Media’s management, “Party Politics” will engage with any political topic that impacts the people of Texas.
In addition to the Friday 8 p.m. time slot, weekly episodes will encore Sundays at 6:30 p.m. on KUHT TV 8.
