Karla Leal joins Spectrum News 1 Texas

Karla Leal returns to Austin to anchor weekends for Spectrum News 1 Texas from Telemundo Chicago WSNS where she was a reporter/fill-in anchor (and reported for NBC 5 Chicago WMAQ).

Here is what the EMMY and Peter Lisagor award-winner posted to Facebook:

"Join me on Spectrum News 1 Texas –via your cable provider or by downloading our app—this and every Saturday, when I will be anchoring our evening broadcasts starting at 5 p.m. (CST). On weekdays, catch me reporting or working on special projects.

I’m excited to join a team of top notch professionals in front and behind the cameras. They make sure stories of #Texans across the state are highlighted in our daily coverage, and they’ve welcomed me with open arms.

I will be based out of #CentralTexas, my good ‘all stopping grounds, where not so long ago I lived, reported and delivered your ‘noticias en EspaƱol’. I am eager to reconnect with the members of these communities, to explore more of this amazing state, and to let my ‘Tejana’ spirit bloom once again.

As a bilingual immigrant from Tijuana, Mexico, I am honored to bring a different voice to our news team. It’s a big responsibility that I don’t take lightly."

Leal joined Telemundo Chicago in 2013 from Telemundo Austin where she was the Monday through Friday 5pm and 10pm anchor. She also reported for sister-station KEYE Austin.

Before Texas, Leal was an anchor/reporter/weather anchor for Telemundo affiliate KKEY 13 Bakersfield, California.  She was also a  bilingual traffic reporter for Clear Channel San Diego.

The Columbia College Chicago grad interned with ABC7 WLS Chicago, KFMB San Diego, Telemundo Chicago and the 2005 NAHJ Convention in Fort Worth.
