Roy, who hails from Palm Springs, CA, played played football for College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA. After earning his degree there, he got a scholarship to play football at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.
He later earned his master's degree from Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
