Arielle Schafer, who joined the KLBK Lubbock sports team in August 2021 as a weekend sports anchor has been promoted to the station's sports director.
"I’m so excited to take this next step in my career and thankful that I get to continue to share the amazing stories of the athletes and coaches in the 806," Schafer tweeted.
She takes over for Ryan King who left in late 2021.
Schafer was previously a weekend sports anchor for WVUA 23 Tuscaloosa/Northport, Alabama.
The University of Alabama grad, who competed on the Women’s Rowing Team as a student, was also a student reporter for Crimson Tide Productions/SEC Network.
Taking over weekend sports is Lauren Cottrell.
"I am SO extremely excited (and shocked) to announce that I have accepted a job as the Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter at @KLBKNews," Cottrell tweeted. "This has been a dream of mine for so long and to say I am thankful is an understatement. I guess wreck ‘Em is appropriate but go frogs forever."
Cottrell graduated from Texas Christian University in December 2021.
She has previous work experience with TCU Football where she was a reporter/podcast host and the Dallas Morning News.
UPDATE: Chaz Wright also joins the department as a sports reporter/photographer.
Everyone say hello to your new KLBK Sports Department!!! So excited to have Lauren here!
