Brandon Walker's Good Samaritan honored

Brandon Walker

Before we were all locked down, you might remember how January 2020 started off poorly for KPRC 2 reporter Brandon Walker who was hit by a truck while crossing the street.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2023
Brandon Walker leaves KPRC 2

Thankfully, Lamar High School senior Alex Park was in the area and offered aid.

KPRC reports that Park was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Medal of Merit for his heroic actions the night of Walker's accident.

While I cannot, for some reason, embed the great message Walker posted on Facebook concerning Park, here is what he wrote:

"I was honored to attend his special ceremony Sunday, with Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Not only is Alex an Eagle Scout, he was awarded the Medal of Merit — a national award for what he did to save my life.

According to its website, Boy Scouts of America says one is eligible for the Medal of Merit if they’ve “performed acts of service of a rare or exceptional character that reflect an uncommon degree of concern for the well being of others.”

If one needed a photograph to illustrate said description, Alex’s mug would be front-and-center.

To this day, Alex doesn’t think much about his efforts that night. To him, he saw someone who needed help — so, he helped.

That’s all.

I think that’s what makes his success all the more beautiful.

What a shining example of courage, empathy, humility, compassion — heart.

That’s Alex, alright.

Congratulations, bro!"

Miraculously, Walker was back on air at the end of March 2020 and in perfect reporting form.

(Thanks Robin!)
