The Houston Film Critics Society (HFCS) has voted “Yellow Rose” as the Best Film in the Society’s annual Texas Independent Film Awards (TIFA) and has honored Andrew Patterson with its TIFA Visionary Award for “The Vast of Night”.
Both awards were announced during the Society’s first television awards broadcast on Houston’s independent station, KUBE-TV.

The broadcast, which included comments and interviews from Society members Michael Bergeron, Joe Leydon, D. Mark Schumann, Regina Scruggs and Joshua Starnes, was hosted by founding member T.J. Callahan.
The Society created the TIFA in 2014 to spotlight the quality of independent film in Texas. Each year, the Society welcomes submissions of films that have been shot in Texas and financed outside the major studio system by small investors and/or independent production companies. The TIFA review and selection is overseen by Society members Joshua Starnes, past Society president and Cary Darling.
The thirty-nine members of the Houston Film Critics Society are working film journalists on television, radio, online and in traditional print. Together, they reach millions of people each week across the United States with their critiques and commentaries on film. The organization’s mission is to promote the advancement and appreciation of film in the Houston community and beyond.
