Laura Laughead joins KAMC Lubbock as weekend anchor and MMJ
Laura Laughead (pronounced “Law-Head”) is the new KAMC Lubbock Saturday 6pm/10pm anchor and MMJ for the Nexstar Station.

She even tweeted how her parents watch her newscasts online.
"My parents in Houston somehow wired their TV to get Lubbock newscasts, and my mom sends me videos like this every time I anchor so I can 'see myself living my dream on TV,'" Laughead wrote. "I love them so much."
Now usually in these posts, I don't talk to a new Texas TV anchor's parents, but most of them aren't the child of a famous former Houston TV reporter!
That's right, Laughead's mother is former Houston TV medical reporter Christi Myers who worked at KHOU 11, KPRC 2 and abc13 KTRK!
"I’m very proud of [Laura] because she did this all on her own," Myers told mikemcguff.com. "She’s seen the hard hours and the deadlines. That didn’t scare her off. She learned to shoot and edit well at UT’s Journalism school."
Myers tells me that Laughead's love of writing started in middle school. That love blossomed into writing awards in high school and two college level awards at the Lone Star EMMY awards last year.
Laughead graduated as Valedictorian of the the School of Journalism in the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin in May 2020.
While in school, she interned for Good Morning America, KEYE Austin, abc13 KTRK and KLRU Austin. She also wrote for the Daily Texan and served as an executive producer for Texas Student Television.
And after all of those accomplishments, let's give mom one more time to gush!
"She shoots her own complicated standups and drove 2.5 hours each way through Caprock Canyon to shoot a story on a sailor who survived the sinking of the Indianapolis," Myers told me. "She made her 6pm deadline!"
