Univision Stations in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix End Sweep No. 1 or No. 2 in Both Early and Late News
MIAMI, May 22, 2020 ̶ Following a broadcast season which saw Univision crowned as the fastest-growing media group in the U.S., Univision Communications Inc., the leading Hispanic media company in the U.S., is reporting that its stations in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix have outperformed English-language competitors ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW to become the top-ranked broadcast station in primetime during May sweep.
Driven by a primetime lineup featuring industry-leading Spanish-language content and the most-trusted news in Los Angeles, KMEX Univision 34 concluded the May sweep as the market’s undisputed leader. Ranking No. 1 in primetime and total day, KMEX Univision 34 outperformed the competition due to bold and uplifting programs that drew in Angelenos night after night. Further cementing Univision’s top position locally, the award-winning news team led the station to wins in early and late news among all key demos, regardless of language beating out ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW.
New Yorkers turned to WXTV Univision 41 in May as the station was the No.1 most-watched destination among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 in primetime, regardless of language. The success translated into total day where the station outperformed CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 to secure the No. 2 position in the market. Meanwhile, WXTV’s early news finished first among Adults 18-34 and second with Adults 18-49, while its late news locked up the second spot with both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.
KXLN Univision 45 Houston had no problem with the competition, besting ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in both primetime and total day among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54. The station’s strong results extended into news as KXLN’s news programs were the most-watched early and late news across all Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.
KUVN Univision 23 Dallas – Fort Worth cruised to a first-place ranking in primetime and total day with Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49. Its news programming also continued to shine, placing first in early and late news among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49. Additionally, KUVN had a strong showing with Adults 25-54, delivering the most viewers in the demo in primetime and late news.
For the third straight sweep, KTVW Univision 33 Arizona ranked No. 1 in Phoenix during primetime and total day among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 24-54. Furthermore, in news, the station’s late newscast was No. 1 among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, while early news delivered the most-watched telecast in the time period among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49.
WLTV Univision 23 Miami defeated ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW in primetime and total day. Meanwhile, the station’s late news ranked No. 1 regardless of language with Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, and delivered more Total Viewers 2+ than ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. Additionally, WLTV’s early news placed first among Adults 18-49, and finished ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX with Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and Total Viewers 2+.
Chicago’s WGBO Univision 66 delivered stellar results in primetime, besting CBS, NBC, FOX and The CW to rank second in the market among Adults 18-49. On the west coast, up north, KDTV Univision 14 Bay Area outperformed all other broadcast stations in primetime among Adults 18-34 securing the No.1 spot. The station’s late news also saw success versus the competition, delivering more Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 than ABC, CBS, NBC and KRON.
