KHOU 11 Honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award

HOUSTON, TX – KHOU-TV, the TEGNA owned CBS affiliate and a leader in local news coverage, received a 2020 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News. The award recognizes the station’s coverage of Tropical Storm Imelda. Imelda caused devastating flooding across Southeast Texas on September 19, 2019. The storm flooded thousands of homes and vehicles across the Houston area.

“It is our responsibility to serve the people of Houston – especially when it comes to delivering life-saving information,” said Sally Ramirez, KHOU 11 News Director. “To be recognized with such a prestigious award is a great reminder to our team of how important our work is.”

The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of broadcast and digital journalism.

“We are proud of the work we do here at KHOU,” said Bobby Springer, KHOU 11 President and General Manager. “Even in a fast-paced breaking news environment, we are thoughtful about how we get important information to our viewers.”

Murrow Award winning stories put public interest above all else, provide a catalyst for public discussion, and adhere to the RTDNA Code of Ethics.

This marks the third year in a row that KHOU 11 has won a Regional Murrow Award for Breaking News. The station was recognized in 2018 for their coverage of Hurricane Harvey and again in 2019 for their coverage of the tragic shooting at Santa Fe High School.
