Houston Public Media Announces New Additions to its Young Leaders Council
Houston Public Media proudly reveals new additions to its Young Leaders Council, a group of engaged Houstonians that treasure Houston Public Media’s unique position in the media landscape and work to spread its mission.
These incredible young professionals represent a cross section of the communities Houston Public Media serves, and have demonstrated a deep understanding of public media’s ability to provide programs and services that educate, enlighten and help inform civil discourse essential to society.
The 2019-2021 class is the second cohort of a community-driven initiative established in 2018 to engage the next generation of public media supporters and bring Houston Public Media’s greatest ambassadors closer to the station and content they cherish daily.
Since its inception, members have gained stronger knowledge of the inner workings of a nonprofit newsroom. Members have participated in strategic planning sessions with staff and other key station stakeholders as well as attended intimate gatherings with local, regional and national public media personalities, hosts, and journalists.
“I have learned a lot about HPM's financial and operational models, as well as how they work within the national PBS/NPR ecosystem,” said Jeff Reichman, principal of January Advisors and member of HPM’s Young Leaders Council inaugural class. “If you're a fan of public TV or radio, this is such a cool behind-the-scenes view.”
At its core, members of the council share their love for public media by encouraging others to read, listen to and watch Houston Public Media content.
“We are excited that young leaders in our region are invested in preserving public media for future generations to come,” said Victoria Cordova, manager of communications at Houston public Media and co-founder of the young professionals group. “It’s powerful to have Houstonians tell fellow Houstonians why this asset is important to them, and why the organization is so important for the future of our city.”
