Sweet 96 KIRP-LP, a low power radio station serving Sugar Land in Fort Bend County, has signed off according to the station's Facebook page.
The following message was posted on the page's cover photo last week:
Thank you Fort Bend! We have loved being your hometown radio. We'll see you again with a different community service vehicle but for now we must say goodbye. All the best to you! - Ray, Donna, Shoogie Cain, Sweetie Pie, Sweet Baby, Sugar Ray, John Paul, Kelli, Emilee and many others.
Sweet 96 billed itself as "Sugar Land’s Hometown Radio Station." It aired at 96.1 FM and Sweet96.com.
According to an article in the Fort Bend Star, the station signed on in 2018 and was a mix of country, classic rock and other musical programming. It also aired Sugar Land Skeeters and high school football games.
When it signed on, the station hired known Houston radio names like Paul Christy, (KRBE, KHMX), Josh Holstead (KIKK, KILT), Kelli Casey (KODA, K-Lite) and reporter/voice-over talent Donna Reed.
