KPRC 2 launches “Opioid Nation: An American Epidemic”
KPRC-TV Channel 2 launches “Opioid Nation: An American Epidemic,” an ongoing public awareness campaign featuring an original broadcast special, news reports, digital media resources, community outreach and public service announcements, focusing on opioid addiction in all of its forms and its devastating effect on people and communities. KPRC2’s initiative is part of Graham Media Group’s company-wide commitment to addressing the opioid crisis
“Our reporters have been covering the opioid epidemic in earnest for the last few years,” says KPRC-TV Channel 2 Vice President and General Manager Jerry Martin. “This initiative will be a way for us to take our dedication to reporting the hard truths about addiction to the next level, working with community partners to combat addiction.”
On September 5, beginning with Channel 2 News Today and continuing through Channel 2 News at 10, KPRC2 will hold an all-day event featuring special investigative news reports and digital content, culminating in a locally-produced, commercial-free, hour-long primetime event, Opioid Nation: An American Epidemic.
“The opioid crisis has reached epidemic status across Houston and the United States,” says KPRC-TV Channel 2 News Director Dave Strickland. “Our reporters and producers will help shed some light on what is being done to fight this growing killer.”
The primetime special, hosted by Bill Balleza and Dominique Sachse, will broadcast on-air as well as stream live on Click2Houston.com. A dedicated page, Click2Houston.com/addiction, will serve as a continuing resource guide for viewers in need.
