Phil Archer hits 40 years at KPRC 2

Phil Archer

Looks like Dave Ward isn't the only one hitting a big Houston television milestone. KPRC 2 reporter Phil Archer tweets that he hits 40 years with the NBC affiliate today.

"In a rare lapse of judgement, Ray Miller hired me on at Ch2News 40yrs ago today," Archer tweeted. "So far, so good."

Archer joined the station in 1976. He started working the police beat as a reporter-photographer.

Just two years later, he received the Perringer Award from the Texas Association of Broadcasters after being stabbed and hospitalized while covering the Moody Park Riot.

As you have seen of the years, Archer has gone on to cover everything from government to fires, floods and foreign wars. Along the way, he has won awards from the Associated Press, UPI, Houston Press Club, Houston Fire Department, Association for Retarded Citizens, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and American Quarter Horse Association. In 2006, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awarded Phil first place for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina.
