Crime Stoppers of Houston will host its 23rd Annual Crime Stoppers Gala on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the Omni Houston Hotel on Woodway.
The “Building the Block” celebration will honor Houston media icon Dave Ward of ABC-13 for his outstanding contributions and leadership to create the organization’s highly effective media arm. The event will also serve to announce plans for the new Crime Stoppers of Houston building. The funds raised will support crime prevention programs, which over the years have empowered, educated, and engaged the community in the important conversations about crime, public safety and the protection of society’s most vulnerable citizens.
The evening will begin with a VIP meet and greet with the night’s keynote speaker, best-selling author and Emmy award winning journalist, Ted Koppel. VIP guests will have the opportunity to meet and take a photograph with Koppel and then continue in to the silent auction and big board, all in support of the Crime Stoppers’ mission. Master of Ceremonies Melanie Lawson of ABC-13 will welcome guests to the cocktail reception, which will be followed by dinner while excitement builds up for the anticipated surprise performances and special guests in the Regency Ballroom.
The Gala is being chaired by Joella and Steve Mach along with Courtney Zubowski Haas and Dr. Eric Haas as Auction Chairs. The focus of the evening will be to honor Ward for playing an instrumental role in creating the “media” reach of Crime Stoppers of Houston back in the early 1980s. It was his creativity and ingenuity that contributed to the famous (and internationally recognized) Crime Stoppers’ reenactments. Thanks to his vision, Crime Stoppers of Houston has created a model that now leads the nation.
“The Crime Stoppers’ success story is a result of strong collaborations between all those who love Houston including citizens, media, law enforcement, elected officials, corporate partners, and the philanthropic community. As Houston’s only independent public safety non-profit, we rely 100% on generous donations from the community. The funds raised at our Gala support Crime Stoppers' vital programming and allow us to address the growing needs of all those who call Houston home,” said Rania Mankarious, Crime Stoppers Executive Director.
