I'm sure you've been wondering about the whereabouts of KPRC 2 reporter Mary Benton over the last few weeks. Well, the award winning veteran Houston reporter has a lot more on her mind than just the upcoming February 2014 TV sweeps period.

Due to complications that have caused anemia, Benton has been dealing with blood transfusions, infusions, medications and countless doctors appointments.

"Every day I felt exhausted and sick," Benton tells mikemcguff.com. "My blood level/hemoglobin was always extremely low. My doctors told me they were amazed that I managed to wake up and get to work every morning."

Benton's doctors warned she was jeopardizing her health because she was so determined to avoid surgery and get back to normal. The doctors eventually won and now Benton will soon be having surgery.

So in the four to six weeks she will be off the air recovering, Benton will have to just sit out and watch from the sidelines during some big events.

"This means I will miss February ratings and, as I mark my 20th anniversary with Channel 2 this year, I hate to be away from our viewers and important stories in our community," Benton told me. "I look forward to getting back on my feet and back to reporting for Channel 2."

Spoken like the true professional she is, but I think I can talk for the viewers in this case and just say, "Mary we are praying for you and get better. See you on TV again soon."
