KENS 5 veteran news anchor Fred Lozano announced his plans to retire from the news business in September of this year. His last day with KENS television will be June 29.
“It’s been a true honor & privilege to have worked so long with the best television news organization in San Antonio, said Lozano. I sincerely want to thank all of our viewers. Without them it would not have been possible. I look forward to the future and wish my friends here at KENS all the best.”
Lozano, co-anchor of KENS5 Eyewitness News This Morning, the station’s popular weekday morning newscast, has been a fixture in local television news for more than three decades.
“Fred Lozano is one of the finest journalists I have experienced the pleasure of working with in television,” said KENS 5 President and General Manager Robert McGann. “He has been the rock of stability on our morning news since 1997. I cannot thank Fred enough for his contributions to the success of KENS.”
“Fred is a consummate journalist who always covers the news with a sense of immediacy and professionalism. He has a unique rapport with the viewers and will be truly missed in the newsroom,” added KENS 5 Executive News Director Kurt Davis.
Winner of multiple Emmy Awards and numerous other broadcast journalism honors, Lozano is a native of San Antonio and a graduate of Brackenridge High School. He is the father of three sons, including twin boys.
