Lisa Hernandez is pregnant
Wednesday evening in a mikemcguff.com exclusive, I told you KABC weekend morning anchor Lisa Hernandez was hired as the main KHOU 11 anchor to replace Lucy Noland who left for KNBC in Los Angeles this summer (go to link for video of Hernandez on ABC 7 KABC).
Thursday afternoon, KHOU 11 released the official news below and we get a new photo of the Southern California transplant.
KHOU 11, Houston’s CBS station, announced today that Lisa Hernandez will be joining the team as co-anchor with Greg Hurst for KHOU 11 News at 5 and 10. Lisa comes to KHOU from KABC-TV in Los Angeles, a top-rated ABC station, where she has worked as a morning anchor and reporter since 2004.
“Lisa is a wonderful addition to our five and ten o’clock team and we are confident that she will be embraced by the Houston community for her abilities on the anchor desk as well as in the field,” said KHOU President and General Manager Susan McEldoon.
While in Southern California, Lisa covered a wide range of stories, from wildfires and mudslides, to the Oscars and the investigation of Michael Jackson’s death. Lisa grew up near Palm Springs, California and earned a degree in Political Science from UCLA. She began her television news career as a producer for KESQ in Palm Springs and later accepted a position in Charlotte, North Carolina before joining KABC.
As Lisa teams up with Greg Hurst for KHOU 11 News at 5 and 10p, Shern-Min Chow will join Len Cannon on the anchor desk for KHOU 11 News at 4p and continue contributing as a reporter. Len and Greg will remain co-anchors of KHOU 11 News at 6p.
Shern-Min Chow joined KHOU in 1996. Most recently, Shern-Min anchored weekends. She is the recipient of awards from the Houston Press Club, Texas Associated Press and the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
“Lisa and Shern-Min are two outstanding journalists who love what they do, and it shows,” said Executive News Director Philip Bruce.
The changes will take effect when Lisa Hernandez moves to KHOU in late October.
Today I have also received an email from a KABC employee who does not want to be named, but says of Hernandez, "She's a terrific talent, super personality and will do great things in Houston. Interestingly, her father is a well-known high school football coach in California's Coachella Valley."
Having football in the blood is good for an anchor in Texas.
Also, an Orange County resident tweeted me to find out if he could watch Hernandez' KHOU newscasts online.
