Poor KHOU.com and its big blue bar

It is not a good day to be a Belo TV web site. Take KHOU.com for example. Most of Saturday morning it has been a blue bar and that is it.

KING5.com in Seattle was savvy enough to redirect the site to a blog to explain the problem was with the BELO "Internet infrastructure." WFAA was even better. The Dallas station redirected to a news blog with actual stories. The Houston Chronicle had to do this once for what I believe was a big downtown Houston power outage. Thank goodness for blogs...right?

UPDATE
Looks like things are back to normal at the BELO TV sites.  I received a facebook message from a KHOU.com representative about its site after I published this post.  Here it is:

Dear Mike,

I enjoy reading your blog each day. However, I want to respond to your latest post which is a little misleading.

Unbeknownst to everyone, the KHOU online staff worked tirelessly all day and night publishing 11 News content to a redirected blog. BELO was able to set up these blog redirects successfully for all of its websites including KING5 and WFAA you cited in your blog.Three sites were unable to be redirected including http://www.facebook.com/l/;KHOU.com.

It was frustrating to the entire http://www.facebook.com/l/;KHOU.com team members who are all fully committed to providing continuous news.Hopefully the worst is now behind us.

http://www.facebook.com/l/;KHOU.com prides itself on being a credible source for online news and information. The 36 hours the site was down were difficult. However, http://www.facebook.com/l/;khou.com never stopped publishing and unfortunately, we were unable to deliver this quality journalism to our readers due to circumstances beyond our control.

I am proud of the http://www.facebook.com/l/;KHOU.com online team.

As soon as http://www.facebook.com/l/;KHOU.com was up today, the site was completely updated with the latest news and video within 2 hours.

The online team had a plan and continued to publish news hoping our redirected blog would go LIVE. Unfortunately, it never did like the other Websites in our company.

Respectfully,
Christine Di Stadio
Director of Digital Media
