Be careful what you post on Facebook, the media will use it

Facebook is supposedly a closed network. Meaning most people feel secure about posting items on the site because someone has to be a follower to see it - not just anyone can call up your full profile without you confirming them as a friend.

But wait...

You've heard the stories how potential employers somehow get past that and call up Facebook accounts to get a true gauge of who a job candidate is - now there is the new threat.

Media.

I thought it was interesting how Houston television stations and Web sites were quoting KTRK Channel 13 reporter Eric James' Facebook account yesterday after he says he was kidnapped and
carjacked
. I also noticed sites using his Facebook profile photo as his photo in stories.

Clearly Eric James is in the media so he is friends with those reporting the story. But does that really matter? If a person is in the media and happens to be of a friend of someone who makes the news, is that newsmaker's Facebook account fair game for quotes and photos?
