A big Houston media challenge

Got some info on a big Houston media showdown coming up for the BP MS-150:

It's not Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs...but Sports Radio 610's Rich Lord, 50, and chron.com sportswriter and Sports Radio 610 sidekick Anna-Megan Raley, 25, do have a "Battle of the Sexes"-type competition going on with the BP MS-150. Both members of Team Sun & Ski, the third highest ranked fundraising team of the MS-150 (close to $400,000 brought in last year!), the two have challenged each other as to who can raise the most money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Lone Star Chapter. (They say they're not racing against each other on their bikes. . . .)

Pasadena native Megan, who is on Sports Radio 610 with Houston Chronicle sportswriter John McClain on Tuesdays at 10 a.m., lettered in six sports at her small private high school in Pasadena, Faith Christian Academy. She was played volleyball, softball, basketball, boys' baseball (so she's used to challenges from the guys), and soccer. She was also a cheerleader. However, she has never been a cyclist and has started from scratch to train for this 180-mile ride. She said she had the opportunity to meet singer Clay Walker, who has MS, and that "hit her like a brick wall." She really wants to raise a lot of money for the MS Society to help those who have this devastating disease. She says she's shocked how hard it is to ride into a hard wind, but knows it's nothing like living with multiple sclerosis every day. She's been working out with a trainer and is ready to "kick Rich's you-know-what." Anna-Megan fans can support her in the BP MS-150 by making a pledge on her chron.com blog.

Rich, who lives in Sugar Land, has been an avid cyclist for about nine years. He has ridden in six MS-150s. Last year, he rode with Team Sun & Ski with his brother, Bob, a marathon runner who lives in New Jersey. His brother kept their pace very consistent. Rich's MS "pedal partner" is the brother of a client of his. He'd like to raise as much money as possible for the MS Society because he knows that the MS researchers funded by the MS Society are really making progress.

To donate to either Anna-Megan or Rich or BOTH, go to: http://www.sportsradio610.com/pages/1608733.php? and click on their respective names.

I think Bob Martin, the media tax man, should throw down too. Bob, if you are reading this, let us know where we can donate for your ride (if you are riding this year). CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
