The losing bug has taken a strangle hold on the Houston Astros. Everyone hates to watch their team struggle. I'm racking my brain, trying to figure out what in the world the Astros can do to make contact with the ball. Let's see what the guys are batting. I'm scrolling through the Astros batting averages, nothing really jumps off the board at me...EXCEPT Adam Everett is hitting .188, Jason Lane is at .173 and Morgan Ensberg is putting those two to shame with a .216 BA.
Holy Cow! Are you kidding me? It's not like Everett's been a powerhouse throughout his career, but come one! I know, I know, he's not out there to play offense, he's there for defense. That argument's a bunch of crap. What does the Astros organization owe this guy? It's not like he's Roy O, Berkman, Biggio...Everett must have pictures of the head honchos in compromising positions.
Jason Lane hits like a future N.L. batting champ in the cage, but folds like a cheap suit when it counts. Morgan Ensberg...more has been made about that guy's 428 different batting stances and his yellow tinted shades, rather than his play.
Before I break out my "jump to conclusions" mat, check out what the two shortstops at Round Rock are batting. Yes, that's right...125-150 points higher. Everett makes some spectacular plays, but it's time the Astros start thinking trade. Morgan Ensberg, Chris Burke, Adam Everett, Jason Lane...I'm sure you guys are fantastic and crack jokes on road trips to keep everyone laughing, but it's time to go.
The Astros won't get many takers for Ensberg because the team signed him to some big bucks after his great season in '05. Take a look at what these guys make. Who are they going to pick up? Drayton McLane has some pocket change stashed away in his sock drawer after Houston lost the Clemens sweepstakes. We need a bat sooner than later.
