Here is the mikemcguff.com podcast from Tech Now. This edition - keeping your kids safe on instant message programs. We talk with Brandon Watson of IM Safer, a Houston-based company that has a unique way of monitoring the chats.
I tried the program out myself and it took no time to set up. I jumped on the AOL Instant Messenger and tested the system with a movie bot. The bot wanted me to enter my zip code so it could tell me the nearest movies playing. Seems innocent enough, but not to IM Safer. It immediately flagged the zip code going over chat (in case your kid was giving out his address) and emailed an alert. I then typed the word 'sex' to the bot, naturally the service quickly flagged that exchange too.
