Five year ago on 9/11/2001, I had just been with the KTRK web department for a few months. I didn't usually report to work until 11 am. That day I got in early.
No one could access abc13.com after the attacks because there was so much traffic hitting the server.
So I created this lite site in about 20 minutes, graphics included. I didn't use an html program, I just coded by hand as fast as I could. This bare bones site was easy to load and could be seen by the public. I believe it stayed this way for several days. It all gets mushy because I ended up working about 12 days straight. We received a lot of heartfelt email during that time. Houston families writing in looking for missing loved ones, even local Muslims scared to leave their homes. ABC later incorporated this idea into another lite site.
By October of that year I was in the news department where I have been ever since.
