The last few days have been busy and deafening for me. Sunday we saw Poison/Cinderella at the Verizon Wireless Theater and Tuesday night we caught Rancid at Warehouse Live.
I could just claim we went to see glam happy Poison and Cinderella because my wife wanted to, but I'm man enough to admit they both put on a good show...even if they wear more makeup than a River Oaks trophy wife. These two bands out play most groups half their age. And besides, where else can you get lasers and lots of pyro to jazz up the crowd? And what a crowd it was. You might not believe this, but it was nearly sold out. Can you believe Poison has been around 20 years? Even funnier when a young intern at work had no idea who they were. Should I feel old?
Tuesday we made our way through the large crowd at Warehouse Live to see Rancid. We missed The Briefs who were one of the two openers. Rancid puts on a great punk rock show. As soon as the band appeared on the stage, the drinks started flying and the pit started. I'm too old for the pit. Special moments? The crowd erupted when the band went into Knowledge by Tim Armstrong's old band Operation Ivy. Then they played an acoustic set! I say plug back in but it was cool they took a chance.
I found plenty of pictures from the Sonic Youth show I went to, but nothing from either of these shows. Let me know if you run across any pics from Houston.
This would have been the trifecta of shows if we would have made Anthrax last Thursday. I heard it was a great show. My friend says the Houston metal community came out like a fistful of metal (I couldn't resist).
Who knows, tonight I might end up at System of a Down...you never know. But that Woodlands drive is SO far.
