Most radio stations like to create a big event when switching formats. Usually they will stunt. That means they create a fake station for 24 hours, or run a ticking clock, construction noise...etc. Other times the station just switches to a new station at the top of the hour with no explanation.

I think many radio professionals would agree these switches are an art form.
