Though wireless companies have not researched area-code loyalists, both Verizon and Cingular say anecdotal evidence supports the trend. "Younger people are not tied to a location anymore," said Ritch Blasi, Cingular's director of media relations. "They really are tied to their phones."The article goes on to say how many cell phone users have cut the land lines. I'm included in that statistic. Who wants to pay around $30 for a land line when you have your cell phone and are really never home anyway? Area Code, Sweet Area Code
The NY Times has a story about young people in Washington DC who retain their hometown's area code for their cell phone. I think that is happening in more places than just there. One of my good friends lives in LA and I can still call her through the 281 area code.
