Nick Canizales is returning to 12News KBMT Beaumont as the 5 p.m. anchor and will also co-anchor the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Claydra Rhodes beginning Monday, February 2, 2026.
“I’m honored to step into this role and continue serving the community that raised me,” Canizales said. “12News has always been home, and I’m excited to lead our evening newscasts with integrity, energy, and a focus on local stories.”
Canizales rejoined KBMT in November 2020 after spending eight years at sister station KCEN in Waco/Temple/Killeen, where he served as sports director from 2012 to 2020.
Before his time in Central Texas, Canizales worked at FOX 4 Beaumont KBTV (then a Nexstar Media Group station) as a weekend sports anchor/reporter and an account executive.
A Lamar University graduate, Canizales began his television career in the Golden Triangle in November 2002 at KBMT, where he worked as a production assistant and photographer.
Over the years, he has been recognized by Texas AP Broadcasters and the Press Club of Southeast Texas for Best Sports Anchor, Best Sports Story, Best Sportscast, and inclusion on the State of Texas Media Honor Roll.
“Nick brings a strong track record of newsroom leadership and storytelling, as well as an unmatched commitment to Southeast Texas,” said 12News Assistant News Director Kait Griffin. “His experience and credibility make him a natural fit for our evening team, and for the high standards we set at 12News. Nick embodies our commitment of Putting Southeast Texas First!”
