abc13 KTRK gets new graphics

New graphics package for KTRK abc13 in the red, white and blue theme

KTRK abc13 starts of the 2015 May sweeps period with a graphics refresh, but with the same patriotic colors as before. The station even picked up a new voice guy to go with it.

    1. Their current studio set has been in place since the summer of 2008.

  3. Mike, I was the Account Executive with Winius-Brandon Advertising for the KTRK-TV account back in the 70's when we hired the Houston graphics firm of Dunham & Dunham to create the original KTRK-TV logo(with the tail). Larry Dunham headed the firm.

  4. Why did they feel they need a "new voice" guy?

    1. I liked the former voice guy myself. Just my two cents. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    1. Ch. 13 should have a news studio set with an enlarged downtown skyline in the background!

However, they need to bring back the Circle 13 logo from 1971!

  6. Who will be next. Almost could see a change with Ch 11 and their set and things.
I know they have done a little change with how they do the updates to stories coming up before news casts away from the Desk now. But Ch 13 for you and more to be out front.

  7. KPRC did a new news set. KHOU has totally redone their graphics. Now KTRK. So, KRIV...how about it? Yeah you got LED lights in the studio, but that set needs a little work.

  9. I think ABC13 is using the longtime voice of "Inside Edition", Steve Kamer-as their Image Voice of the station.

  10. I hate the new graphic refresh in general since it's only for 16:9 television sets.
I'm thankful that KRIV is still 4:3 safe.
Wish the FCC would mandate that every television channel, both main and sub channels (like 8.1, 8.2 and so on) be 4:3 safe. :)

    1. Fox 26 is due for a new studio set! Their current set looks UGLY!

    2. 4:3 safe is going away. It's inevitable and that's a good thing.

  11. Kamer is the new voice guy. 13 is long overdue for a makeover. Everything is as stodgy as Dave Ward.

  12. I can't tell if new KTRK graphics package is by Renderon or a different graphics firm. KTRK graphics kinda resembles or has similar elements to the Scripps graphics to a certain extent. I doubt that KTRK and other ABC O&O's plan to discontinue "Eyewitness News" theme music anytime soon... and I certainly wouldn't expect WPVI to ever retire "Move Closer To Your World" either.

Regarding KHOU and the current Gannett graphics... I simply don't care for the rundown/lineup feature, and everything else is okay. The "This Is Home" music is okay. Gannett will be spinning off later this year... broadcasting and digital media will be called TEGNA, while publishing retains the Gannett name.

I would certainly agree that KRIV is due to receive a set makeover. Most other Fox O&O's that have received set makeovers got Devlin Design Group sets... WAGA by far being the best Devlin set thus far. Hopefully KRIV and KDFW are likely to receive Devlin sets sometime in 2015. Also not sure if new Fox O&O graphics and music could be in the works either.

  13. KHOU-TV's studio set needs an update though!

  14. Hopefully Gannett (soon-to-be TEGNA) could be planning set makeovers for a few of its stations, including KHOU. Other Gannett stations I can think of needing makeovers... KUSA Denver, WUSA DC, KSDK St. Louis, KPNX Phoenix, WKYC Cleveland, KGW Portland, and maybe WFAA DFW. KING Seattle will be moving to new state-of-the-art facility around 2016, give or take... and will receive it's new street-side set then.

  15. I hear the KTRK's new package was created by Hothaus not Renderon or Blue Helio.
