UPDATE 3/20/2013
Michelle Merhar, Fox 26 KRIV, delivers baby girl

Michelle Merhar left Fox 26 KRIV last Friday to go on maternity leave. I told you in December that Merhar was expecting a girl in March.

"I am so blessed to have some amazing friends that I get to work with every morning," Merhar wrote on her Facebook page. "Caitilin Espinosa is sending me off on maternity leave with a bang."

That send off from Espinosa included cupcakes and a fruit salad.

So who is filling in for future Mama Merhar starting Monday? It's Radio One Houston superstar Ayana Mack who you can hear regularly on 97.9 The Box KBXX, Magic 102 KMJQ and News92 FM KROI.

"I'm very excited for Michelle and happy to join the Fox team," Mack told mikemcguff.com. "They are like family over there."

Mack should know. She used to fill-in for Erin Anthony on the Fox 26 traffic green screen.

BTW, Mack left Mix 96.5 KHMX for Radio One Houston in July of 2012.

Congrats to Merhar and family.

  1. Speaking of Fox 26, can someone PLEASE explain to me what this "Fox 26 for Life" nonsense is? What does that even mean? It's so weird and clunky that when I hear it, it makes me think of the pro-life/pro-choice abortion issue but, yeah, that's obviously not where they're going. Guidance, anyone?

    1. It's where TV marketing meets social media - trying to serve both worlds and is too long of a hashtag in my opinion.

    2. I think the same thing, fox 26 being pro-life, whenever they say "fox 26 for life" on the station's news and promos. As a tv station, keep political opinions to yourselves and leave it to the viewers to decide, not you. Come up with another slogan that's universal, something everyone can relate to, instead of isolating certain people with different political beliefs.

    3. Also, enough with the 10 minute fluff stories!!! I'm sure some people don't care about a country music star's concert. How about something that actually MATTERS as top story smh

  2. Fox 26 hasn't done hard news for years. Not sure they know what it is or how to do it.

  3. I happened to turn it on when she was doing traffic and felt so bad for her. She was really messing up. They should probably get someone that is good on the spot and can think off the top of their head. Also, what happened to dressing professionally when you are on tv? So many of these women look like they are going to the club.

  4. Fox hasn't been a legitimate station for years. The anchors and reporters are old, the only cute chick is natalie b in the morning and the stories are long and boring. i dont feel like i'm getting the same news as other outlets. i only watch a few minutes in the morning but it's time to switch to 11 or 13.

  5. Why is Ayana Mack hidden during the traffic report. Only a voice is heard. What's up with that?!?!?!

  6. I hate to say this, but Ayana Mack is really getting on my nerves in terms of the way she speaks. For instance, if she were to say "coming up," she pronounces it as "coming gup" which is really annoying. She uses a hard "g" whenever a word ends in g. It doesn't seem very professional, and I'm surprised that someone hasn't advised her to drop the hard g. I won't watch until Michelle comes back because this is bugging me.

  7. They don't have her on camera anymore because she freezes and she starts to babble. Michelle works my nerves too with her flat face and the way she says good sunday morning, good saturday morning...
