WXYZ-TV is pleased to announce the addition of sports anchor-reporter, David Solano, who will join the 7 Action News Sports Team as the weekend sports anchor in July. Solano comes to Channel 7 from KIAH-TV in Houston where he covered the Houston Astros, Houston Texans and many other major sporting events, including the NCAA Final Four.
Solano is no stranger to Michigan. From 2006 until 2009, he was the weekend sports anchor at WZZM in Grand Rapids. He counts among his favorite sports moments covering the Tigers in the World Series in 2006, and the Detroit Red Wings hoisting the Stanley Cup in 2008. Prior to his work at WZZM, Solano was a sports anchor/reporter at WMAZ in Macon, Georgia.
"Fans in Detroit really know their sports," said Solano. "I love storytelling, so being able to share the stories of pro, college and high school athletes with so many knowledgeable fans is really exciting. I have so much respect for WXYZ, and I'm honored to be a part of a station with so much tradition."
"We're thrilled to have David join our staff," said WXYZ News Director Tim Dye. "He brings experience and a true passion for Detroit sports to our station. By adding his talents, we believe we're well positioned to cover the biggest sports stories in the state!"
A native of Portland, Oregon and a graduate of Portland State University, David Solano will begin with 7 Action News the week of July 16th.
