I heard the rumor a few months ago that longtime Houston anchor Jerome Gray was having contract re-negotiating 'issues' with KPRC 2. Guess that appeared to be true.
David Barron with the Houston Chronicle reports that Gray's last day will be November 18. Economics were cited as the reason. The same thing happened to his co-anchor Wendy Corona.
Gray started in Houston with KHOU 11 and had a good run there, followed by his managing editor and 4/6pm anchor gig at KPRC.
The buzz in the Houston media has been that Iain Page, from the Golf Channel, who started recently at KPRC 2 weekends as an anchor is Gray's replacement. Who knows? Although that makes sense considering KPRC has had a one anchor weekend show for a very long time now. Also, in this economy, hiring a guy with national exposure for weekends doesn't make a lot of sense. Then late last night I heard it could be KPRC morning anchor Owen Conflenti. Personally I don't see why KPRC would take him off its successful morning show, unless they want to rub a little Conflenti magic on the afternoon shows. We will wait and see.
