KHOU 11 news director Keith Connors leaving in November

I heard the news early Wednesday afternoon and started my digging. Multiple sources told me the rumors were true that KHOU 11 news director Keith Connors is leaving the Houston station at the end of November.

Now Mega-agent and friend to Connors, Rick Gevers, is talking about Connors departure in his popular TV news director newsletter.

That's about all anyone apparently knows at this point. We don't know why he is leaving KHOU 11 or where he is going next. Naturally people in the Houston television news world are wondering if KHOU 11 assistant news director Andrea Parquet-Taylor is taking over. They are asking because Parquet-Taylor was previously the news director of the legendary WXYZ in Detroit. We don't know if this is true either.

KHOU sends me good news like this (and I thank the station for that), but I have not heard back from Channel 11 on the Keith Connors news after my inquiry Wednesday afternoon.

It is interesting to point out what Gevers wrote in his newsletter. Connors has been with Belo for awhile. Previously he worked at WCNC-TV in Charlotte and WVEC-TV in Norfolk. It was pointed out to me that while at WCNC, Connors was featured in a 2001 PBS documentary about local news called Local News.

  1. What a shame, he was doing a fantastic job over there. Didnt they just win a National award for one of the best newscasts in the country?

  2. I was at the Capitol Grill last night and he was there eating. I overheard him saying he was sick and tired of the General Manager and the Belo Brass.... Makes you wonder the ego this fat fool carries with him. By the way I also heard the waiter say how much of a cheap tipper he is.

  3. When he arrived at KHOU 5 years ago, all of their newscasts were number 1 in the ratings.

NOW the opposite is true. He wrecked that station.

It doesn't matter how many "awards" KHOU wins, if they're not getting the numbers, they can't charge the hefty ad rates they used to and they make less money.

I'm surprised he lasted this long. KHOU has been in the crapper ratings-wise for a while now.

  4. WTF ? How does being #1 at 10 pm equal ratings in the crapper?!

We were all shocked when he made the announcement. He will be missed. And KHOU will never be the same or as good without him.

  5. He married one of the reporters there.. Isn't there something in station policy about dating your immediate boss?? Hmmmm... maybe something caught up to him?

  6. Isn't Kevin Connors the one who married former KHOU reporter Karla Barguiarena recently ?

  9. Connors interviewed at WTHR in Indianapolis last week. Insiders said it looks like a done deal. He and the new GM at WTHR are good friends.
